I have been working with map data for over 20 years and love just about every aspect of maps. The ability to store and analyze layers of geospatial data allows us to identify patterns on the landscape or within our communities and to use this information to make more informed decisions about resource allocation or potential interventions. Listed below are just a few examples of the types of GIS work I could help your organization with along with some examples of work I've been a part of.
Report quality maps and figures
Interactive data visualizations
Acquire, process, and develop DEM derivatives for ecological or hydrologic modeling
Time series analysis
Social determinants of health and vulnerable populations mapping
Field data collection – both public health and natural resource data
Secondary data collection and exploratory analysis
3D mapping
General consultation on GIS data and project needs
Let me help you and your organization put geographic information into the hands of decision makers, community members, and subject matter experts to make more informed decisions. Here are couple examples of data dashboards and story maps that I've created as examples. These example tools are best viewed on larger screens.
This work involved creating a 1-m digital elevation model (DEM) from high resolution Light Detection and Ranging data (Lidar) for 8.2 million acres of the Cumberland Plateau in Eastern Kentucky. The DEM was then hydro-corrected or flattened to remove unnatural features, hydrology was modeled, and a set of DEM derivatives were created including a landform index, distance to nearest channel, elevation above channel, distance to nearest fire compartment, and fire compartment size.

When vaccinations first became available during the COVID-19 pandemic a phased distribution system was employed. Information was sparse on how many people were in each phase. For this project I led a team at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in creating a set of dashboards that estimated the total population for each phase of the vaccine distribution providing decision makers with valuable information during a time of upheaval and uncertainty.
